Listen to us talk about the Bechdel test, the Mako Mori test, and the Harvey/Renee Index. We do get off topic for a while to talk about “Pacific Rim” and the “Alien” movies, but otherwise there’s a lot of good talk about what we think of these different tests that measure diversity.

The reason we’re saying “yeah” a lot is because in our last podcast, we talked about how we can’t just all nod at each other because you, the listeners, can’t see that happening. Also, you can hear a lot of Jason’s cats meowing.

 

BTA updates and convention news

Hey everyone,

Bitch Team Alpha has really been taking off, so thanks a lot for that (and thanks to our awesome guests too who have taken time out of their busy day to chat with us)! We’re working on a lot of convention stuff right now because we’d like to get out there and meet more people. We can’t tell you much yet, but one place that we’d really like to be is Geek Girl Con up in Seattle in October, so fingers crossed for that one.

I’d also like to take some time to talk about what we have coming up in future podcasts! First of all, Katie Leone is working on video content for Zero to Hero, which is going to be awesome so keep your eyes out for that in the near future. Katie Tregs has a lot of good comic discussions coming up, including my personal favorite new comic Saga. Jessica and Katie Tregs will be talking about some cool stuff soon in Feminerds, including the origins of the word “bitch” (and why we chose it to be in our name), as well as diversity tests and other interesting topics. Amanda is working on getting some cool interviews lined up – we may have to postpone the first release of Ladies of Alpha but I think it will be worth the wait. BitchPop has released their awesome Game of Thrones episode and I’m really excited to see what they’ll cover next month. We also have a few “one-off” podcasts coming soon, including an episode about board gaming that Katie Tregs and I recorded along with her husband and my fiance, and keep an eye out for our “Nerds in Love” podcast in about a month. Lastly, I’ll be working on covering all of the interesting video game news that comes out this summer (starting soon with E3), and I’m really excited about our Indie Games episode of Heroine that will be 0ut soon, too.

But mostly, I just want to thank you all for the support. We’re two weeks in and already have a pretty large following and we’re growing every day. Keep telling your friends about us and keep listening!

Small update and 9 days until launch!

Hey guys! We’ve got 9 days until our launch, and we’re working really hard behind the scenes! We have three of our first podcasts recorded and we’re excited to get them edited and ready to go! We will be updating this space soon with a list of our first month of releases. Some of our first podcasts will cover gaming (Heroine), feminism in nerd culture (Feminerd), comics (Girls Like Comics, Dammit!), as well as cosplay and books. We also have Amanda working on some podcasts interviewing some cool people, so those will be released when they’re ready later this summer.

We’re gearing up for the launch of Bitch Team Alpha, and it looks like our first podcast is going to be released May 14, so mark your calendars! Right now we are hoping to release a new podcast every Wednesday and Sunday. Our first podcast will be Katey’s (on video games), with many more to follow in the first month on some topics like cosplay, comics, feminism, books, and maybe even an interview or two!

We’re all really excited to get this off the ground. Spread the word!
